Top 5 dog friendly glamping sites in the UK

Most people’s pets are considered part of the family, so having to leave them at home during a holiday can be heart-breaking. Luckily, there are plenty of fantastic glamping sites across the UK that welcome your pooch with open arms; you’ll never have to put them in a kennel again!

Dog catching ball

Let’s take at five of the best glamping sites for both humans and dogs in the UK.

1)     Lee Wick Farm, Essex

Set in the beautiful Essex countryside is Lee Wick Farm, which makes for a wonderful glamping site. It has three eco ‘MegaPods’ within a private paddock away from the main farm – you’re bound to find them charming, on both the inside and out.

These cosy pods are fitted with everything you need, including a double bed, double sofa bed (great for kids), internal wet room and a small kitchen and dining area. When the sun is shining, you can sit outside on the decking with your pooch. You even have BBQ facilities – just make sure your furry friend doesn’t nick the sausages!

Pets and kids are free to run around in the safety of the paddock and there’s also a beach and nature reserve nearby for you all to explore.

2)     Exton Park, Rutland

Stretching 500 hectares, picturesque glamping site Exton Park dates back to the 18th century and is the setting of a luxurious glamping site. The canvas-wrapped three-bedroom home from home is incredibly spacious, boasting enough room to sleep a family of six, plus all the family dogs.

The tent is equipped with all the necessary facilities, including solid decked floors, wood-burning stove, sofa, dining tables, fit pit with unlimited wood and even a proper toilet and shower. There’s no need to walk across a soggy field in the middle of the night when nature calls!

There’s plenty for you and your dogs to explore nearby. Exton Park boasts a five-acre walled garden which leads down to a serene lake – if you’re lucky, you might be able to catch the ospreys fishing for their dinner. Why not walk around and see what else you can find? Lantern & Larks glamping has three other UK locations which are all dog-friendly too.

3)     Skipbridge Farm, Yorkshire

This quirky farm is home a variety of animals, from goats and llamas to horses and sheep. It’s also a fantastic glamping spot, with two choices of accommodation. Couples will adore the shepherd huts, which are small, intimate and very romantic. Inside you’ll find a double bed, wood burner and tea and coffee-making facilities.

If you’re planning a family getaway, the bell tents are an ideal alternative. These beautifully decorated tents are spacious and welcoming – there’s enough room for two double beds or one double and two singles. A luxury heated shower and toilet unit is located just 20 metres away from the tents and huts.

Charming villages and wonderful pubs surround the farm, offering plenty of places for your dog to explore. Alternatively, the city of York is just eight miles away.

4)     The Lodge, Eden Hall, Cumbria

If you’re looking for a totally private escape in the wild, they don’t get more secretive than this cabin in the woods, located on the edge of the Lake District. The Lodge lies just a few feet away from the bank of River Eamont, which is perfect for salmon fishing, so bring along than rod!

This unique glamping spot is perfect for all sorts of holidays, from romantic getaways to family get-togethers. The Lodge has three double rooms and if you need more space, you can hire a gypsy caravan to be pulled outside it, which has room for two more adults and one child. Best of all, there’s no extra charge your bringing your pooch along.

Inside, you’ll find all the creature comforts you’d expect at home, including a luxury wet room, four-hob gas oven, central heating and fast Wi-Fi. However, we bet you’ll spend most of your time outside in the hot tub, enjoying the varying wildlife – keep your eyes peeling for otters, red squirrels and kingfishers.

5)     The Cider Wagon, Hereford

Ever wanted to have a whole cider apple orchard to yourself? Well now you can – as the only person you’ll have to share this glamping venue with is whoever you decide to bring along with you! The cosy, newly-restored gypsy wagon may be small, but it has enough room for a double bed and traditional ‘Queenie’ stove, which your dog will love snuggling up to in the evenings.

Just 20 metres from the wagon is a sheltered kitchen complete with camping gas oven, fridge and comfy seating area. The unique flushing toilet and open-air hot shower are also 20 metres away in a separate hut.

The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Brecon Beacons National Park are both just a short car ride away, and are the source of many wonderful walks and attractions. In the evening, light the fire brazier and enjoy watching the sun set behind the stunning Black Mountains in the distance.

Of course, there are hundreds of dog-friendly sites across the UK, but we thought these five offered something a bit different. So go on, the next time you’re planning a holiday, do it in style and take the pooch with you – they really will thank you for it!
